Can a Gospel Artist be effective singing "Non Gospel" Music?

Would you support a Gospel Artist that has "crossover" to Secular Music?

They could but I would not support it.

Problem is, Gospel music is not Popular.  It requires someone who listens to Gospel to search his/her heart and soul to see if the Lord will say, "Well Done thou good and faithful servant" after this life is over.  So, Gospel cannot be popular.  When a listener hears "Jesus" in a song, they instantly feel the need to adjust.  Singers who purposely take "Jesus" out of their songs to sell more, have to think about the purpose of their ministry.  Gospel cannot "crossover", because its main purpose is to make YOU crossover to the Lord's side.

I totally agree.

No I would not.  The Bible ask a question, "what fellowship has light with darkness, or what fellowship has Christ with Belial (the devil)?  2 Corinthians 6:17 states Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

I John 2:15 states Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

John 15:19
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

Jesus said, the world hates you because he chose you.  It's pretty clear to me that God has chosen us out of the world and though we live in the world, we are not of the world.  There is a great problem within the body of Christ today.  The world has successfully infiltrated the church.  Sadly instead of the church converting the world, the world has entered and converted the church.  This has occurred in a vast number of cases.  The church folk now dress, speak, think and behave like the world.  Sinners have entered the church and have failed to be born again, filled with the Holy Ghost and their hearts and minds have not been transformed.  As a result the love of many has waxed cold as the scriptures concur.  Preachers don't preach like they used to preach, holiness.  Many preachers are like dumb dogs that have lost their bark, the love of money being the root of all evil. Will the real church and real saints of God "Please Stand Up".

Their is something wrong when you claim to be a Christian Artist and you still desire and can sing the world's song.  Their is a problem with an individual's Christian experience.  If there ever was a need for the Gospel message in word and in song, it is now.  We need to hear more about Jesus in every aspect of our lives.  It's Jesus, Jesus, Jesus in the morning, noon and night. You just can't serve 2 masters, you will love one and hate the other.  The Christian world has been used by secular artist who decide to sing a so called Gospel song or produce a so called Gospel album.  The church will buy their music because they are celebrities without considering their life styles and lack of a relationship with Christ.  They may sing a song and mention Christ or God but that along does not make it Gospel.  Gospel music is a part of the Christian experience and when song by dedicated Christians there is anointing, anointing that the worldly performer does not have.  Anointing comes out of heaven from God and he chooses and decides whom he will anoint.  Money and celebrity status cannot purchase, produce or direct that.  Not everyone saying "Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven".

The purpose of the American Gospel Quartet Convention is to re-establish Jesus as the foundation of our music. We further want to return to living what we sing about. Next, we want to learn more about the business of music and finally, we want to promote wholesome fellowship. The American Gospel Quartet Convention's purpose remains intact as attendance has grown from serving several hundred in 1993, over five thousand in 1997 and 1999.

The mission, as the Lord directed, is to call the gospel quarteters back to our foundation - Jesus Christ. In doing so, twenty conventioneers have been saved and/or baptized during the convention. We have also created a learning environment for quarteters interested in learning about the ins and outs of the music business. From this environment, much beneficial information has come forth, enhancing the careers of the attendees. And finally, the wholesome fellowship of The American Gospel Quartet Convention has been responsible for providing an opportunity for hundreds of lifelong relationships to be formed.

Through the unselfish support of The Advisory Board, Record Labels, Promoters, Announcers, Managers and The Gospel Quarteters and their supporters, The American Gospel Quartet Convention is making a tremendous impact on the quartet field. We have come a long way, but the wonderful journey will continue until every quarteter is on board.
